Hello everyone! My name is Carolyn Nazerian, and I am the “Carroll” and my sister and co-author, Anna, is the “Anne” in our pseudonym “Anne Carroll.” Today, I wanted to share a little bit about our story and how we came to write our Book Series, “The Secret Keepers.”
Our journey writing together began shortly after our father, Richard, or “Ricardo III,” passed away on May 12, 2010. Feeling nostalgic after his passing, Anna and I decided we wanted to write a story about our family history. We grew up hearing about family legends and how we came to be. For example, we were told that our grandfather, Ricardo II, “rode with Pancho Villa” during the Mexican Revolution. We also heard how our great, great grandfather, Emil, immigrated first to Houston, Texas and then finally to Matamoros, Mexico. After five years there, he married a Mexican woman, and they had 10 children together!
We have heard so many legends from distant relatives that have included even more distant ancestry with King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella of Spain, and connection with the Italian family, the Borgias. And there is so much more! Who knows what is true and what is simply myth. But the fun is in the telling of such stories, of exploring the lives of those who came before us, in all their grandeur, beauty, and even ugliness.
These are just a few examples of all the stories we heard that inspired our desire to capture the essence of family histories, the good, the bad, the beautiful, and the ugly. We all have stories to tell in our history! They are rich and funny, and so very interesting!
While The Secret Keepers series is absolutely fiction, some of the stories and the people in our family tree from the 18th and 19th centuries inspired our creative imagination. Our first book in the series is The Tortured Tyrant and our second is Flames of Love and Revenge. Both are available on Amazon. We hope that reading them will inspire you to explore your own family tree and engender a love of history.
In closing, what family legends do you have to share? We would love to hear them!
